Thanks Frankie, I must admit that some of the comments make me want to give up on the breed...not anything to do with the Dogs, it's all to do with the ignorant 'standard worshippers' who think that the Dog is there to win trophies, please their eye for aesthetics and to warm their sofa for them. I find it incredibly frustrating.

It's not just BT's falling fowl of these people it's right across the board.Over my time i have seen the lurcher and terrier being used less for work and more for show.

I think all breeds have been effected to some extent but the Bull Terrier comes a very close second to the Bulldog in terms of the extent to which it's been effected and the proportion of the Dogs effected. Unfortunately the widespread and damaging myth that the Bull terrier was bred purely for show gives people the excuse that the Dog has only one function and that's to please the eye.

I'm trying to wean myself off the idea of getting a Bullie but everytime there's a good looking, unexaggerated one on various forums, I want one again lol. I know I should just stick to a molosser cross from a hunter up the road but there's something about the Bullterrier that keeps drawing me back.
I find it funny that the show breeders always put up the same evidence that the BT is still an athletic, driven breed: namely, the Mexican vid with the bull, the white BT jumping through some waves that features in Dr David Harris' very biased book, the boar hunting dog, Jake, that got poisoned and a few others. They just won't have it that the modern day BT isn't too far away from the Bulldog in terms of ridiculous and offensive exaggerations.
The Pedigree Dogs Exposed woman referred to another BT article that should be arriving in a day or two...

I had the same feelings too, Staffords have always been my one and only breed, my brother had always liked the Bull Terrier and I was convinced that they had certain merits when he got his one. When I saw Lyndon's Dogs in photos I was very impressed but I only really fell for them when I saw them in real life. Since getting my boy it's been a steep learning curve, he's very different from any Stafford I've known and much harder work but I've personally found him very rewarding to own and I've been impressed by his qualities, some of which really surprised me and I wasn't expecting. I will hopefully always own one and help in some small way to restore this type.
