i think its down to the dogs eye sight/nose.. some people call grey hound and wolfhounds sight dogs..
gotta remember rabbits can hear/feel you thru the ground, all depends on the wind aswell good noses on them bunny's..

make you right neil , if it hasnt got any running dog in the mix they need to get lucky in the open feild, me lexi and frank the bullferret are going out as soon as the ferreting season starts.i think the bull breeds will have more chance in this sort of senario, will have to wait and see.its a shame the legal qaurry is so small these days.trying to find some ratting permisions.

the place i go is an old quarry its all feilds and paths but the rabbits sit on the edge and soon as he gets close they jump in the bush and he is to big to get thou them him self my mates boarder can catch em there nealy every time miss one the other day but he aint took him for a while but he is so clever he will move slow and silent he walked right pass one the other night he was that quite the bunny never moved till he was right in front of it it was funny they made each other jump i was thinkin he has got it i was thinkin how clever he was to get that close and walked right past it lol winston will just charge them full steam all the time and they see him a mile away

Butchs catches alot, mainly the ones that freeze, he just swings them round, rolls on them and rips them up he wont eat them anymore, he leaves them for his gf Ivana!
There is actually a burrow on the otherside of the fence, opposite the kennels and the dogs can see it, im sure they wave to them stuck in the kennels!!! lol
Matt you'l have to come up with the old bullferret!

you will have to forgive my ignorance guys i don't know anything about hunting - is it illegal then if a dog catches anything other than a rabbit on private land?

As I understand it, it is illegal to hunt deer with dogs but there has been a recent court battle of which the outcome was that it was impossible to "hunt" unintentionally...this means that if your dog catches a deer without you intending for it to do so then you cannot be charged under the hunting laws. There may be other things that you could be charged with but "hunting" has to be intentional.
I think you may still flush out deer and foxes with two or less dogs with the intention of shooting but how you get dogs to flush out and not chase to catch is beyond me.
There are other laws about hunting foxes when they've gone to ground, I'll post them up in a bit.
Please correct me if I'm wrong but I believe this is the current law.
You must always have the permission of the land owner no matter what you're hunting.

Mickey.. the Border Terrier was bred for it.. thats why there so good at it..
the jack russel comes out in lennox, going all stalky, then the staff must take over and he looses his patience and full on charges them, then most of the ti9me gets his hes stuck in the burrows lol
india will just flat out chase them.. but atm we cant get close enough to get her a good run on them..
jess all you need is a ferret and poppy lol

God NO!!! Poppy is a nightmare you cant let her chase rabbits or she wont come back for hours till she has caught one.
Butch and the others are fine they will chase what they can see, until it disappears in the bushes then they stops.
Poppy on the other hand will keep going! she goes through barb wire, ditches, brambles... fire if she had to!
Lucky we have just agricultural land for miles, and we know the land owners well and he knows poppy, but its not safe, She has a thing for the monkjack deer
We have an electric fence now to stop her, she will test it still from time to time, but rather that than getting into someones garden and a family rabbit or worse still casing a car accident.
