Been viewing the board for a while since this site was put on BBL. Seeing that Dawn joined, thought i would so im not alone lol! My name is Toni -yes female! Im 24 this week, from Scunthorpe, have a 20 month old staff called Buddy, and am lookin for a girl puppa for him a mate, in the next couple of months - not to breed as my boy is done anyway. Heres a couple of pics...he currently gets about an hour - and hour and half exercise a day, running, playing football etc. But now his safely developed im going to try and get him fitter. ;D Any starter tips? You can see he isnt fat, i just want him more defined/toned. His 44lbs and 17" to the withers thankyou.... ;D

Hello Toni, the firt pole, A-frame and springpole are all good for giving them a work out but a ball launcher will also make the best of his walks. Personally I would take 2-3 pounds off him but as you say he's not fat and improving his fitness and muscle strength would be my priority. Welcome to the forum.

try to take him down to 40 lbs I.M.O whats his daily food allowance first off ? he will be stunning at around 40lb i rekon. Biking i feel worx his muscles up as does flirt pole. If he chases get a ball catcher. try to walk and extra mile than usual. hes got a lovley head and is a perfect breed height. stamina will also be gained on a bike. I really do like biking as a 2 mile ride is proboblly as good as a 5 mile walk AGAIN ONLY MY OPINION.
LOOKING FORWARD TO SEEING HIM DEVELOP.

He usually has 250gms in morning, and 250gms at night, this is his allowance on JWB. BUT... I do free feed - i should really stop this... sometimes i top his food up in the evenin and food is still there. So his probably getting more as he sleeps and isnt burning it. :s He also gets chicken wings - probably 2/3 a day and a raw bone every other day, or each day if its a smaller one. I dont know how much to cut out his kibble to compensate for his raw bits and bobs.

Oh and does that mean i have to get on a bike... ;D I will see, i have a ball launcher - do u mean the long handled plastic things.... He loves it, i do like the frisbee thingys that Martin uses so i might have to get some of them. Since I saw Wallacethepitbull on youtube i thought it was a brill thing.

again only my opinion but 250 a day is enough can you not cut out the morning feed ? he will look at you for it for the next few days but honestly hes on double what he should be on. there will be muscles hiding at the moment. Hes not too overweight now but he will just get bigger by feeding him that amount. My dogs get between 2 chicken wings and 150gms kibble daily or 200/250 grammes of kibble a day. And i work them quite hard too bike rides and walks daily.
But if its muscles you want start by loosing a lil weight if its fitness take him riding.

That's the thing, just try all sorts of things to try an get him more active more often and make the most of the time you spend walking him.

oh forgot if you treat him give him a apple instead And do not leave uneaten food in the bowl for him to eat in his own time. Feed him after the family has eaten. I also starve the dogs one day a month this does them no harm and teaches them not to take it for granted food is always available in the wild they wouldnt find food everyday If you decide to bike with him get a walky bike im waiting on delivery of my new bike now ill post pictures later of my 2 rigged up to the bike they love it.

Ok thanks everyone, its not just muscle i want, of course fitness is more the key IMO. Does anyone on here sell flirtpoles or have a guide to making one?
I will cut down his food, albeit, it wont be in one day, but i will start today by emptying his food bowl.
He does have carrots, although, he likes to shred them and leave bits all over than eat them lol, i didnt think apples was all too good for them, or is it just the core?

Welcome along Toni, nice to have you here. I agree with what Shak has put, but you do what you feel is right for you and your dog. You should pay no more than £10 for a large lunge whip,(12ft ish). I look forward to hearing of your progress with him.
