i know a lot of people feed after exercise, but then theres the old thing saying feed after the family, the dog is bottom of the pack. i always feed after exercise and even starve them occasionally.so they dont take it for granted food is always available.I actually change my feeding time normally its after the family have eaten unless they are in competition then i feed them 20-24 hours before the comp. It worx for me.

Personally feed mine in the morning after a walk round the block, then in the evening after she has been walked properly, sometimes it's quite late but it works for her. You know your own dog, but i would say never feed if you know your going to go out. IMO it's best to work them, let them rest for about half hour when you get in then feed. This way the nutrients out of the food go straight to the right places in the dog.

Run, eat, sleep, that's how it happens in the wild. Dogs should never be fed and then exercised, that's the one rule I always stick to as they can get twisted stomachs which is potentially fatal.

I wouldn't make too many associations between human and canine digestion, the stomachs are a different "design". The general rule about allowing time (approx 90 minutes) to digest before exercise is the same but for different reasons, the consequences for us are alot less serious.

That's a more tricky question, it's very difficult to get a puppy to sit still after eating but I wouldn't take a puppy for a walk or encourage them to do anything vigorous until a while after eating.
Apparently dogs with deep chests are more prone to twisted stomachs...I don't know why that is.

starving them every now and again wont hurt them if they were in the wild they wouldnt eat everyday.in the wild they work to find food so it makes sense to exercise then feed i.m.o I have just done a 4 mile ride with them and 20 mins play on the beach, they have worked so even if its not much i give them a bonio or simlar. They had a small drink and were asleep within 3 mins.LoL

I feed mine at different times of the day, they eat once a day after exercise........the rule of run, eat sleep applies with mine too. Feeding them at different time of the day is meant to keep their stomach guessing and keeps their enzymes stable rather than expecting food at a particular time of the day. ie. if you feed at 3pm, then the dogs stomach will be expecting food at this time and start producing enzymes prematurely, which leads to the bile being thrown up. I also fast my dogs, sometime once or twice a week.....it gives their bodies toxins a chance to stabilize and detox's them of the ones they dont need. If in doubt, think about what they did in the wild.........they were not guaranteed a meal everyday, nor were they guaranteed a meal at the same time every day.
