I think unless your dog is struggling with the work you do with them and they are full of energy theres no need to up thier protien.

hi martin, 4 hours a day is a lot and if you intend to add bike work, then i would take it up to 30%. are you doing any spring pole and a-frame work? if so then i would advise putting it up.ian

hi m8, feeding twice a day is sufficient! by the sounds of things you have time to dedicate to one dog which gives you an advantage! i would feed a good kibble thats well balanced with sups! if you have got a good all-rounder,( dog that does all activities) even better!now you want a spring pole, a-frame and a good treadmill.i have found there is more to bike work than some people may think!!! you need to think about a training schedule (this isn't easy)I'm now starting to put together my own keep which is a complicated subject like hard work days and rest days. high intensity, low duration. low intensity, high duration. there are muscles for both and should be worked on alternate days. you need to work the heart and lungs so they can become adjusted to inhaling and exhaling under hard working conditions! t.b.c.

Cheers ian,, yeah im just gettin into this, but im finding great info from the likes of your self and others on here..
I have all the time in the world atm as im jobless but until the right job comes along im doing ok.. i have two dogs to work but Little lennox cant do as much he struggles after a few hours but the terrier in him doesnt give up.. but after 4 hours india stil wants to pull on the lead, and when we come down our street she tries to walk past our house and keep going LOL
Yeah Im starting road work and biking for Kickboxin so i can kill 2 birds with one stone so to speak, Im going to be building a spring pole and a Frame, im trying to source a broken (human) treadmill to modify. ive also just started Weight pull sprints with a log(probs 5kilos) tied to indias lead, she just pulls and pulls did about 200yards before i caught up with her to get her to stop haha
also liek you say about high intensity, low duration. low intensity, high duration..
I do the 4 hour walk one day.. then the next day i'll Work the ball launcher and or Frisbe(but throwning it along the ground so they have to chase it) for about 30/40 mins.. then a nice slow walk to cool down.. then a 4hour walk the next day but taken a diferent direction(so they dont get bored) they love to play "tag" with a stick one will get it and make the other chase them, and so on.. then they dive in the quarry to cool of swim for 5/10 mins
When i start with the bike i'll do a steady one.. then start to do abit longer every time.. I kno the parimter of the field onmy road is approx 1mile so start on that at a nice slow pace for there endruance..
On the 4hour walk day i'll feed Kibble abotu 1 hour before we go.. then chicken/meat an horu after
on the "high" work days i'l feed 2 lots of meat..
and ever othe day they get a tin of tuna
the only sups i use is rock Garlic and Omega 3 capsuals

swimming in cold water is no good for fitness training. great if you have a hydro-pool, but not many people have access to one of these.

good luck with the training mate, i'm sure you will do well and hope to see india at a few of the events soon, i find the training of my dogs, one of the most rewarding aspects of the dog game, i really love seeing the results at the end of their keep(training period).
