I know that most of us understand the importance of rest but I was wondering how much rest does your dog get? especially when they are training for an event or show.
Do you use rest days and if so how often?
Do you do any exercise on those days like a short walk on the lead or do you allow them complete rest?

I do rest the dogs 2 days before s.a.c.s events and only walk them on those days maybe 3 miles. The rest of the time when we dont have events, i rest them 3 days in 7, i vary all exercise on working days. Its never the same. I do not always stick to this but its roughly what i do. I will work them hard the week of a show followed by 2 days rest.

personally i work shifts and have found it works to my advantage as some days i dont have much time to work them so they get rested, when working them for a competition i would give them about 2-3 days off out of seven depending on how my shifts work that week, on days off i take them out once for a couple of miles.
