I couldn't tell you what is the best food..I tend to go on what suits my dogs..all of them are on puppy Pro Plan robust, thats the adults as well, I always feed puppy food plus barf at various stages through the week..

Orijen puppy large for a boxer and Orijen Puppy for a staffie. I bought it as it has good reviews on the net and found that the dogs do quite well on it. It's expensive but it doesn't get eaten in large quantities like other foods as it has no fillers (or the dogs aren't so keen on the taste?) so it lasts longer

I think it comes from the fact that the new age knowitalls claim that dog and cat food should be based on protein rather than other ingredients that cant be digested but are very cheap and hence used widely. Also, the carbs should apparantely come from sources other than grains. PS, our vet advised us against feeding young dogs a high protein diet but he has two fat lazy labs while my dogs are lean and full of beans so I'll ignore him on this one.

I've used Gain in the past too, it's the lowest fibre feed I could find but it didn't work for Sonny, he needs something with a lower fat content. It has a very good reputation with the greyhound and Whippet boys though.

blimey i am a bit concerned after reading this, i was recommended hills by some dog trainer friends of mine & the vet plus did a bit of asking about. I have had mine on hills puppy from day 1, they seem fine. I also give them tuna as they absolutely love it once a week mixed in. I think i need to do some more research.

Iv heard good stuff about Orijen! Iv fed raw for a while now but when i tried dried food i found burns to be the best, even though i disagree with feeding carbs that stuff is at least 50% brown rice
