Somehow I managed to break my D-trace easy shock collar so I sent it back to www.britishdog.net and they were brilliant, they offered to replaced it with another one but I decided that I wasn't too keen on the design and the fact that it's quite easy to accidentally shock the dog or to turn the transmitter off by accident so I decide to upgrade.
I upgraded to a SportHunter 800 and OMG the thing is fantastic quality, it's quite a bit more expensive at just over £150 as opposed to just over £100 for the D-trace but I think it's money well spent. It's re-chargable so there's no need for expensive CR2 batteries, it's upgradable with extra collars for £75 each so you can control more than one dog (up to three dogs), it has endless variations of 'nick' shock, warning tone and continuous shock so that you can tailor it to your needs and it's bloody powerful on it's strongest setting. It has a range of around 800m with the standard aerial and comes with a larger aerial for use in wooded areas and over longer distances. Overall I'm very impressed with it.
Sonny thinks he's hard so he was barely showing any reaction to the old unit and was ignoring it when he was really focused but this one is alot stronger and has the ability to give a shock of duration up to 8 seconds! I defy any human to handle it for more than one second but it's perfect for dogs with extreme chase instincts. Sonny chased a deer this morning in the woods (which I haven't been to for ages because of exactly this problem) and I gave him a continuous shock on the highest setting. He managed to take quite a long shock of more than a few seconds before it stopped him but it did stop him which I'm really glad about, it makes my life so much easier.
If you have a dog with chase problems then you have to get one of these. Even if you never use it it gives you peace of mind that your dog won't run off/get run over/kill wildlife or livestock or cause an accident. An essential piece of kit IMO.
