Im talking about a measurement of fitness for which to judge your dogs by, not a rosette to make the owner feel good. Still that is nice i suppose. A dog does not understand it only has a given time to compete within. A dog with brains will pace its self with its athletic out put when required. Clever athletes do, take Ali vs Foreman for example, soaked him up let him burn out, an emense force worn down by the long distance athlete. Kelly Holmes sat at the back for 750 of the 800 meters, smashing everbody at the end, pace=brains in this instance. This is her 1500 olympic gold . www.youtube.com/watch?v=4PZiOGmakyoImpressive style, had more to give when everyone else ceased up! Got love this type of athlete. The sprinters are what everybody goes to watch because of the explosive nature of sprinting! but these are the types of athletes I think our Bull terriers should resemble.

I remember lactic acid tolerance training from when I used to be a swimmer, it's very intense and uncomfortable. It's about expanding the limits of what the muscles are capable of. The main limiting factors to performance are the cardiovascular system, strength and the ability to cope with lactic acid. For mid to long range performance it's not speed or endurance that's important but speed endurance and that's what lactic acid tolerance training is designed to increase. You might be able to go fast and you might have good endurance but the best endurance athletes will be able to endure going fast for long periods. Speed endurance is both a quality that can be trained for and is also genetic, it would have been an important quality for a pit dog and should therefore be something we should aim for, very short tests can't really do that.

Hello all, the Players Club UK alongside the Iron Dog assc' are now pleased to let you know that we are planning a joint training/ demonstration day, which will be based at an equestrian centre in Guilford. We have confirmation of the venue, which both offers indoor and outdoor facilities, and the demonstrations will take the form of both experienced and titled dogs in both sports, alongside an explination of training methods. We will confirm the date with you all soon, and the likely ticket price will be £5 per head-limited to 200 places. Have a go sessions will be charged by the handler not dog, and will be a smaller fee. We hope to put on a 'Banging Display' with some awesome dogs in both sports, and want to showcase the more formal and disciplined aspects of both of these demanding sports- so it would be great if you feel able to support these displays. (if demand or interest shows itself training evenings will follow in both sports). www.playersclubuk.com

Just had confirmation today-we have an advanced Shutz' handler and his dog, and proffesional PP worker as part of display, alongside some equipment being brought in to make a course in the grounds should time allow after all the displays-will confirm dates soon- but looks like either Sunday 12th or 19th September. It will be tickets in advance-due to limited spectator area, and we want to offer you a banging day-full details soon. www.playersclubuk.com
