I don't really think there is a way around it TBH Neil, she'll eat any bloody thing you give her. I think the only way is to use straw or wood shavings.
If you want I could build you a deep box for them and something that would go across the bottom bit of the door to stop it getting onto the carpet. That should stop it getting everywhere.

I wouldnt use wood shavings at all, it will get everywhere trust me, we tried it in abbeys whelping box before the pups were born everytime she hopped in or out it was stuck to her and ended up all over the house regardless of how we tried. Straw or good old newspaper mate or like terry says shredded paper.

I think you're right Shak, it would stick to Ted like shit to a blanket. He'd look like he'd been tarred and feathered.

I hear dfs have a sale on, a nice corner sofa would be ok!!!lol
On a serious note my old AB would destroy everything, in the end I used to buy cheap bedsheets and let her tear em up then replace them when necessary.

The trouble with Lily is that she doesn't just rip it up, she eats it and it makes her ill.

Get some big brown cardboard boxes...cut about 6 to the shape of her bed.piles these on top of each other and gaffa tape round the edges make sure there is nothing she can get her teeth into and start pulling it up and its sealed all the way round the bed...get the good black gaffa tape the real sticky shit....This should help with the sores mate.Other than that i would go with the straw.

Glen, thanks, that i will try tonight No worries sorry forgot to ask what type of bed she is in...i was thinking the gaffa tape or duck tape would stick better to one of those oval hard plastic beds...also i thought if you do 2 sheets of cardboard then half inch peace of foam then 2 sheets of cardboard over that then seal of with the tape. if you have one of those electric knives used in the kitchen.Cut the shape of the foam out with that you get a good finish.

I remember seeing some dog beds that looked a bit like a low level trampoline with some kind of sheet suspended in a frame. You could probably knock one up yourself and make it non chewable.

Thanks for all your suggestions but the shredded paper seems to be working well and it's fairly tidy too, it doesn't stick to Ted's coat.
I've made them a big bed with a deep lip on it so it doesn't go everywhere and it looks like problem solved, cheers people.
