Anyone considering breeding should really watch this. Its astounding how many staffy types there are in shelters. We ARE just adding to the problem. I think all breeders should now be tested/educated and they should be held more responsible to who they give thier dogs too. I honestly think some breeds should be illegal to breed for a few years, until new measures are brought in to help this epidemic. There were soo many good dogs in this video. www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b00tcfmp/Panorama_Britains_Unwanted_Pets/

trouble is there are too many people out there who dont know enough about the breed who breed shit to shit and overnight they are a stafford expert.
example one guy has a bitch and his friend has a dog and they decide to breed to make a few quid or he thinks his dog is the bollox and by breeding it he has a dog that will be the same and hasnt studied the lines has not a clue about out crossing or bettering the breed .
they get sold on to same kinda person and he does the same etc etc and you end up with shitty bred dogs passed from buck to buck .

the problem is people have 3 bitches and 2 litters each every year plain and simple you can get a blue kc reg dog for around £300 now 2 years ago it was £1000 and a waiting list. You can often get dogs free now from pups as the breeders just want to get rid of the last 1 or 2 i have had many breeder ask me where to advertize pups in the past because they just connot sell them, Yet 6 months later they do it all again. Breeders do not vet the new owners properlly and many goto the wrong kind of homes or owners. Someone i know was looking for a pup, she phoned the breeder and asked about the dog the breeder replied i got 2 left when do you want to come and pick one up ? LOL no questions at all. Unless something is done itll only get worse. I had breeding plans of my own, but i wont be doing anything about it in the near future.

shakka, i agree with you in theory! but if the responsible breeders stopped breeding for a number of years, the irresponsible would just carry on, people would still want pups but would only have the backstreet mob to purchase inferior Stafford's from! which is how most Stafford's are produced, no easy answer i know.

I agree that the irresponsible people will just keep on breeding the dogs (of any breed). If anything it wouldn't surprise me if BYBs (backyard breeders) made up most of the dog population anyway. Many BYBs think "oh my dogs the bee's knee's" or "he/she is bloody gorgeous" and breeds them, why? Many dogs maybe nice looking due to there markings but doesn't make them breed standard. The thing that boils my blood is when these people advertise the put the word "RARE" up with a £800 - £1,000 price tag and some people are that naive and fall for it thinking there getting a super rare solid blue or solid white Staff when there not, if there that "rare" why are so many advertised? Its the same story for these "designer" dogs eg. Labradoodle and Chiweenie. People are just that stupid to see that they are a mutt they are willing to spend full pedigree price on a cross breed when they are best at saving there pennies and going to the local shelter and picking one up for a meer £70 - £100 a lot less than a fraction of the price!! Plus breeding any random dog as everyone knows isn't a good thing you will have temperament problems, medical issue - minor to major and so forth. When i studied at college we learned that genetically 50% of each puppies temprament is passed from the parents eg. 25% from each parent or each parents ancestor the other 50% is what you mould the dog out to be. So what happens if you get too ill bred dogs the pups may end out with the rough bits yeah you may correct them but its still genetic. Anyway back on to track, that show discuisted me that little Staff Brandy what a cutie pie!!!! If he was deemed as aggressive then my Milla definetly is!! When she was a small baby she was attacked by a Labrador and 6 different Collies then after her first birthday a handful of times from a GSD across the street and two weeks ago last Sunday she had a oh so lovely Jack Russell clamp onto her bottom jaw!! Unless she gets to know the dog she will get her heckles up as if to warn them and hug the floor pee herself as she is such a submissive dog obviously the main part of her attacks were when she was 12 - 17 weeks old who can blame her?! So if Brandy was euthanized for reaching in wanting to sniff the dog then Milla would be because she gets her "sonic the hedgehog" back up and they would ignore the fact she gets herself in a submissive state despite she doesn't growl, bare teeth, bark nothing. Thing that bugs me is people judge my dog for the tosspots that own them these days for a status symbol and to wreck havok on the streets but yet if only they knew whats happened to Milla and me and my family are not like the idiots these days you read about but we are on the complete opposite end of the property market it just infuriates me. Like other Bull breed owners here im sure you all get sick of being tarred with brush as the butts that ruined our bred?! But thats my rant did anyone see the show "7 pups for 7 people" its was based on a BYB Staff owner she just bred for the money and what a rascist she was she annoyed me!! But like the Panorama show it was very good only thing i didn't like was both shows made me cry
