Last week I did something really stupid. My dogs never have bones but there in the pet shop were these juicy bones and I thought, "the dogs would love those...give them a little treat".So the bones were duly bought and heartily devoured by Jasmine and Dotty. In the afternoon Dotty started being sick and omitting from the other end as well.A very very poorly dog.She would not settle and was just wandering around panting.I did not go to bed and stayed up with her.At 3.30 in the morning after about the 40th trip to the garden.she was standing in the kitchen in a pool of bright red blood, and I mean a lot of blood.I woke Ken up and we rushed her to the vets.I was so scared.I thought she had punctured some vital organ and was going to die.The vet said that nothing was punctured but the bone had gone into little splinters and was ripping the inside of her intestines to pieces.Poor Dotty was on a drip, anti biotics and pain killers for three days in the vets, and then when we brought her home,it was another two days before she would eat anything. The vet had a go at us,and said that she doesn't know why people give their dogs bones. They don't need them, and this is very often the result.I felt very guilty.Jasmine was also sick and off her food for two days. Also it was an expensive bone as it cost us £350.You learn by your mistakes, and I did,but poor Dot was the one that suffered

Hope all is well , but why petshops etc get away with selling cooked bones these days is beyond me ? I also know of probs with hide chews & dogs choking , stick with well prepared raw bones ie - chicken carcasses , lamb ribs etc.
Cheers , Terry.
