Hi I found no two dogs are the same its really just a case of trail and era as to what your dog can do and what he or she likes doing best and of course how much time you get with your dog
i would always start with your dogs diet weigh everything get a good set of salter scales and remember rest rest rest try a 3 on 1 off work load and take it from there.
Rest is something that is rarely mentioned when conditioning and to me is where so many people go wrong
and try and make sure after you have done your exercise try and feed your dog 30 mins after his her workout
what do you currently feed your dog? amount? excersise?
hope this helps
Tarren

Good advice tarren - We always feed the dogs after excercise - they have a 'worked for it' feeling and know the routine now. I also make sure i soak the food that way the goodnes from the food is absorbed straight into the gut, rather than the gut having to break the food down first.
I agre with rest too - And what food someone may think is brillaint for thier dog may not work for yours. - everyone of our dogs are on different food, Pain in the arse, but some seem to look better on some food than others.
For example if i feed Poppy the expensive burns so will look no were near as good as she does on The food she is on now - vice versa with Bert.
You have to remember too that it can be down to genetics - Lotti does the same exercise as Poppy - but to look at them you would never think lotti had ever been bloody exercised she wont build muscle definition like Poppy but she is def stong and very fast
Your abbey looks good so what ever your doing keem it up!

Hi She looks really well in that pic good work. Looking at what you do etc its very scattered out. I would try and break it up in to 2 sets a day ie mornning and afternoon workout or as i do 1 solid workout what ever suits your timescale and lifestyle Remember if you are doing 2 work outs per day then you feed your dog twice a day after each workout and if 1 workout than just once a day. How much you feed is dependent on the dog in question as they are all indeed different no 2 dogs the same. turning fat to muscle is a myth mate. Although the larger person or dog with have a greater muscle than a normal or lighter person or dog simply because he has to carry a greater load There is fat and there is muscle. They are two completely different things that can not magically become each other. The only thing fat can do is increase and decrease. The only thing muscle can do is increase and decrease. Only a proper diet plan and or cardio workout will help with losing the fat and only a proper diet plan and weight training workout will help with gaining the muscle. Sounds and looks like you are doing a great job just needs to be finely tuned to get the best possible condition for your bitch i would love to hear about what your feeding ie kibble or barf?? hope this helps Tarren

Tarren thanks for the info currently she is on kibble by james welbeloved at 5 pm (200 gramms) with a desicated liver tablet a cod liver oil and a evening primrose oil too . she will have a bonio in the morning and an apple sometime during the day.simple as that. Shes very small and short legged but we love her. She loves flirt pole and lure but she seems to get fed up on the a frame.

Your Kibble james wellbeloved is not really up to the job the fat content is around 10% and protein around 20% I like around 20% fat 30% protien when in a keep. i feed eukanuba puppy to my adult dogs when conditioning because the puppy food has far more superior vits and is digests so much easier than standard dog food and so in this case you really dont need to add supplements or if your happy with your food than add one or two tea spoons of coconut oil just to up the fat content and hopefully you will see her energy levels sore i really like her she looks a cracking bitch and im sure she will do you proud Tarren

Also theres the fact shes still maturing, so be very carfull not to over load her. Shes doing quite alot in that regime youve got and u may not realise how much because its spread out through the day. I would try and keep the hard work together myself, 1o mins A frame is a hell of a lot of concussion on her joints and they are still forming. Why not do 3 sets of 1 min just like the comp. That way on comp days, she may not think F**k me ive got to do this for 10 mins. she will also buil her anerobic capabiliy. follow that with the flirt pole while shes warm and that should be suffice with all that walking.

Has she had her first season yet shakka?? she is still young we dont really do anything with our dogs untill they are a year - then work them hard - even the a frame just let them jump on it play around and encourage them - we dont tran them on it.
You have to think of the impact on her joints - it could lead to real probs when she s older if you do too much - you have olently of tme to get the best from her let her mature prop first then get her working she wil enjoy it more!! she is beautiful!

A lot of their structure and muscle tone is genetic. Harvey has missed out on walks due to the pups being here and he still looks really fit. Just enjoy your dog and don't push them too hard. We only get Skye really into peak condition when she is going in a show.

ty for all you advice and comments, i now have her doing 10-15 reps over the a frame before a small breakfast and the same again in the evening before she gets dinner. She already knows the drill and when i start to make her dinner shes already on the a frame waiting. Shes holding her weight nicely now at 37lbs.

sorry folks, i'm no expert on conditioning, but for what its worth, i put in a four week keep, slowly build up the exercise for the first two weeks then i used a hard day followed by an easy day.a hard day would consist of at least 10-15 miles, an easy day would be about 3 miles.one of my best exercises is to put a long lead from my bike to their harness and get her to pull for 6 miles. i also have elec treadmill and one my other hobbies is long country walking and so for me it is a pleasure and not a chore. i feed high activity eukanuba kibble.

you cant actually 'tone' the muscle you either have muscle with no fat over or you dont it makes alot of difference to the way the dog looks. the only way to make the muscle show more is drop body fat so you can see it more, the muscles are a pre determined shape so they cant be altered (they can get bigger) but the shape always stays the same. your dog looks to have a good amount of muscle the only way to get it showing more is drop body fat and looking at her wont take too long at all. nice looking dog by the way
